Introduction

Gastroenterology was established as a department at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, in February 2018. The department has achieved significant strides in terms of facilities, clinical services, and personnel strength since its inception. The department now comprises two full tenured faculty members, ten resident doctors, and a number of support staff members. At the moment, the gastroenterology department offers a comprehensive variety of clinical services for the management of gastrointestinal, liver, biliary, and pancreatic illnesses. FibroScan, diagnostic and therapeutic G.I. endoscopies, balloon enteroscopy, ERCP, and EUS are among our specialty services. Its services have expanded to encompass specialised therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma, Budd-Chiari Syndrome, and Angioembolization techniques for gastrointestinal bleeding in collaboration with affiliated departments. The department's faculty members have been involved in research, publication, and teaching. Since January 2021, the department of gastroenterology has been offering a DM course in gastroenterology.

Teaching & Training

The department offer DM course in Gastroenterology (two seats per year). The goal of DM course is to produce a qualified gastroenterologist who can serve in the community and at all levels of the healthcare system, perform professional duties in accordance with professional integrity and ethics, and develop skills for research, innovation, and teaching in area of gastroenterology and hepatology. Apart from training in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology, including GI endoscopies, the DM students are also taught morality and medical ethics, as well as how to carry out research projects .The department has dedicated teaching areas for its regular teaching activities. The departmental faculty members and residents doctors are actively involved in research and publications. Additionally, we hold combined rounds with the faculties other specialties to discuss pertinent cases as part of our academic activities.
