Introduction

The pandemic caused by the spread of Covid-19 has had a wide-ranging impact on not only people's lives and livelihoods, but also on almost every country's health-care system. The lockdown imposed following the outbreak of Covid-19 has had an impact on the working systems of our department and the Institute as a whole. The department's regular services were hampered after the hospital was designated as a "COVID dedicated hospital of Bihar." Not only that the department's normal development hampered, but initially, it also jeopardised the department's normal teaching and health services. But we quickly recovered, learned to overcome this crisis and turned it into an opportunity. The department restored its teaching curriculum "online" and attempted to make as many services as possible available online, such as appointments, reporting, and so on. We began performing clinical tasks and procedures wearing PPE kits. The consultants, residents, radiographers, and ancillary staff worked together to provide almost all types of radiological services to needy COVID patients, including radiography (primarily bedside), CT scan (one dedicated machine for this), ultrasound even in labour rooms, MRI, DSA, and mammography (in needy cases). Many radiographers, residents, ancillary staff, and even consultants were affected by COVID 19, but this did not dampen their spirit of work, as evidenced by the volume of work completed in the department despite frequent lockdowns imposed in the stated.

The department has a well-developed PACS facility with a number of multimodality workstations to facilitate reporting, a well-equipped Seminar Room for teaching, gas pipeline service in the US and CT procedure rooms, and a well-stocked Departmental Library. It is equipped with cutting-edge 256 slice multidetector CT scanning, 128 slice multidetector CT scanning for trauma, and 3T MRI imaging with spectroscopy and functional MRI. Besides:

  1. Ultrasound equipment of the highest quality, including colour Doppler, 3D, 4D, shearwave elastography, contrast US, and guided interventions.
  2. State-of-the-art biplane digital subtraction angiography and interventional vascular and nonvascular suit.
  3. State-of-the-art breast imaging facilities equipped with digital mammography machines equipped with tomosynthesis, stereotactic, and semi-prone Bx capabilities.
  4. A state-of-the-art digital radiography unit is located in the OPD and IPD.
  5. Conventional radiography facility equipped with computed tomography (CR) systems.
  6. X-ray units on wheels
  7. DR X-ray portable units
  8. Fluoroscopy and Digital Radiography
  9. VAB & RFA • The department has nine USG machines
IPD: 2 Beds for general and 6 Beds for Day-Care cum Recovery.

2. Non-Clinical:

  • Online training was made available for residents and staff to learn about new techniques as and when needed.
  • Doctors & Staffs of the department participated in different health camps organised by the Institute from time to time.

3. Teaching and Training:

  • Regular online and off-line teaching classes, interdepartmental meetings, seminars, and training sessions were held as needed. The department had practically daily clinic-radiological meetings with other departments according to a set schedule and even as and when needed, online.
