Introduction

The Central Library at All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, Patna stands as a vital academic hub, committed to supporting the institute's mission of excellence in education, research, and healthcare. Established with the aim of providing seamless access to high-quality information resources, the library serves as a knowledge centre for students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians.

The Role of the Library

The Central Library plays a pivotal role in fostering academic growth by organizing training sessions, orientation programs, and promoting evidence-based learning. It supports research activities through inter-library loans, reference services, and access to national and international scientific literature.

With a focus on continual improvement and integration of emerging technologies, the library is evolving into a modern, user-centric information centre. By bridging information gaps and empowering the academic community, the Central Library at AIIMS Patna significantly contributes to the institute's vision of advancing medical education and research.

Under the supervision of then Executive Director & CEO Prof. (Dr.) G.K. Pal, the BMJ Awareness Training was conducted at AIIMS Patna on 26th and 27th Feb 2024. Prof. (Dr.) G. K. Pal inaugurated the program in the presence of then Dean Academics Prof. (Dr) C.M. Singh, Medical Superintendent Dr. Anup Kumar, then Dean Research Dr. Prem Kumar, and F/C Library, Dr. Sanjay Pandey. The two-day training program aimed to familiarize the faculty & students of AIIMS Patna with the publication procedures in BMJJournal, facilitated by the team of Experts Group of BMJ.

User Awareness Program on New E-Resources:
Under the supervision of Faculty Incharge Library, Dr. Sanjay Pandey the User Awareness Training was conducted at AIIMS Patna on 27th and 28th Feb 2025. Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Pandey inaugurated the program in the presence of Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Anup Kumar, Member Secretary Library Dr. Shagufta Naaz, Assistant Member Secretary Library Dr. Swarnim and Deputy Director Administration Shri Nilotpal Bal. This program covered a wide range of platforms, including MyLOFT, BMJ E-Resources, ClinicalKey AI, CIinicalKey FLEX, CIinicalKey Students, UpToDate, and Scopus. The session provided an overview of how to access and make the most of these resources, with dedicated Q&A sessions at the end.

Health Research Development
Under the supervision of Executive Director/CEO Dr. G.K Pal Health Research Development programme conducted at AIIMS Patna on 19 July 2024 at 3:00 Pm. Prof (DR) G.K Pal inaugurated the programme under the presence of Dean academic Prof (DR) Prem Kumar, Dean student affairs Dr Punam Prasad Bhadani, Faculty in charge Central library Dr Sanjay Pandey and Library Team. One day Workshop of Health research development was facilitated by Dr. Ximena Alvira representative of Elsevier to familiarize the faculty and residents with the publication procedures in Elsevier.

General Rules & Regulations for Library Services

  • Library Card should be compulsory for entering into the library.
  • All the students/scholars, residents and staff entering the Library shall keep their bags and other personal belongings at the entrance. Visitors will first sign in the Register at the checkpoint, before being allowed to approach Circulation Counter.
  • Only notebooks and the Library books will be allowed inside. All the readers are advised not to leave their valuables at the Check Point.
  • Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings. All files, books and notebooks must be presented to the staff /security guard at the checkpoint for inspection while leaving the Library.
  • Books Borrowed should be protected from RAIN, DUST, INSECT, etc.
  • Books removed from the shelves, if not required further, should be kept on the book table nearest to them. Please do not try to shelve them yourself.
  • Readers should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way. If anyone is found doing so, he will be charged the full replacement cost of the resource.
  • All students, PG/ research scholar and residents are allowed to borrow 1 book at a time for a period of 7 days failing which Rs. 5/- per day will be charged as late fee.
    Note- PG/ Research Scholar and Residents are allowed to borrow 1book at a time for a period of 15 days.
  • Conversation and discussion disturbs library ambiance. Therefore all are requested to maintain a dignified silence.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the Library.
  • All users are requested to keep their mobiles in silent mode.
  • Beverages and Eatables are not allowed inside the library.
  • No visitor or guest is permitted to use the Library without properly obtaining library membership.
  • No photograph of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the Librarian.
  • The Library reserves the right to call back any issued book/item at any time.
  • Library Membership card must be carry to use library services for all Students /Residents and Staff members.

  • The library continues to extend the following services to its users. These services have been modernized, updated and strengthened.
  • Total Department wise books available in central library, Total no. of department 35 and total no. of books is 9664.
  • The Central Library has their own Computer Lab, where Library offers access to computers and the Internet. The Library is fully has wireless Internet access to all library users.
  • The Xerox facility has also been provided to the users to the library from 9 am to 5 pm only on all working days except gazetted holidays.
  • The users can get the photocopy of the limited page of books / journals on the payment of normal charges.
  • Wi-Fi facility available.
  • English & Hindi Newspaper 7 in number.
  • Centrally air conditioned library.

Library provides photocopy of books and articles from printed journals available in its collection at nominal charges

Printing facility of articles searched from databases and journals are also available in the library.

The Central Library has their own Computer Lab, where Library provide OPAC services through online searches to the computers via Internet or Intranet. The Library has wireless Internet access to all library users.
