Introduction

With inception of department in October 2012, OPD was started in residential complex under Trauma & Emergency, since then the department is growing to provide clinical and surgical care to patients suffering from Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular ailments. Aftermath of COVID is over in which our HoD was assigned the responsibility of Nodal Officer of COVID-19, we started Open Heart Surgery programme from December 2021 and have progressed in throughout the year 2022-23. Adding to our already running programs of Thoracic, Vascular & Closed Heart Surgeries.

Heart Lung machine started rolling in CT OT on 2nd December 2021 we accelerated the number of Open Heart Surgery in our designated OT from one per week to three per week and now the CTVS Department does five Open Heart Surgery cases per week in a span of one year. This is a long awaited services due for cardiac patients of this part of country. Open Heart cases are being done for Adults as well as Pediatric patients of all age groups .This is in addition to Thoracic and Lung Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Emergency & traumatic Surgical cases that the Department has continued to operate.

ECMO services were launched for the first time in Bihar by the Department of CTVS that helps critically ill patients needing prolonged cardiac and ventilatory replacement function till they recover. ECMO services are offered as part of both Routine and Emergency Services.

The CTVS Department also provided ancillary Cardiology services, along with Cath lab Emergency Services and Permanent pacemaker Implantation services.

  • IPD beds: 30 Beds in D1B on 1st floor of IPD.
  • ICU beds: 08 Beds in B6B on 6th floor of IPD.
  • OPD: 3 days/week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) in Block 1A, 1st floor, OPD building.
  • Special Clinics: 3 days/week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday) in Block 1A, 1st floor, OPD building.
  • OT: 5 days/week (Monday to Friday), OT no. 20 in A block, OT complex.

  1. Clinical
    • OPD Services with Anticoagulation Clinic, Thoracic Trauma, Sclerotherapy and minor procedures, Cardiac Rehabilitation, IPD, Emergencies-Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular and O.T. and CTVS- ICU and CTVS-HDU.
  2. Academic Activities:
    • Participate in Academic programs for MBBS, B.Sc. nursing and MS (General Surgery) teaching.
    • M. Ch. Courses- 6 year and 3 Years in CTVS approved with 4 seats per year.
    • Extra-curricular activities like guiding KAIZEN, Editorial Board of Annual Report, SPANDAN etc.
    • Participation in Disaster Management Department, Govt. of Bihar, different activities and workshops.
  3. Community services/Outreach programs:
    • Participation in Medical camps organised by AIIMS Patna and awareness programs like road safety, mass causality.
  4. Teaching & Training: Courses being run by the department, if any
    • Training of Senior & Junior Residents, teaching of MBBS & B. Sc. Nursing students.
    • QMRT (Quick Medical Response Team) a program of Govt. of Bihar, as a Course Director.
    • Training for Doctors, Nurses & technician of Govt. of Bihar for COVID-19.
